The Food Bag Program is Back!
Sign up for the 3rd Annual Fresh Food for Seniors program through Council Member Erik Bottcher and Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine! Every two weeks at participating senior centers, participants can order and pick-up their pre-packed food bag for $10 per bag filled with fresh produce from regional farmers.
Dates for sign up and pick up are as follows:
Sign up and Payments are on Mondays and Tuesdays and pick ups are the following Tuesdays (must pick up the food bags before 4:00 PM).
September 9th and 10th - pick up September 17th
September 23rd and 24th - pick up October 1st
October 7th and 8th - pick up October 15th
October 21st and 22nd - pick up October 29th

It’s time to pick up a new full zip hoodie in royal blue, light gray or maroon. Available in sizes small through 3XL, only $40 each or $35 each when you buy two or more.

Teachers and Writers

Art for Animals: a workshop of story, sculpture, and song
This interactive multidisciplinary arts and writing course focuses on creating original literature and sculpture honoring our favorite animals The study features creating original animal sculptures and telling their stories with poetry and song. The class will consider how animal literature has evolved over history, what anthropomorphism is and how to address it through art and writing, how to give voices to animals while honoring their true voices, and how to create characters that compel readers to consider the plight of human's closest earthly friends. The class includes an NYC museum visit with a touch tour and a culminating exhibition of original tactile interactive artworks with a live performance open to the Visions community and the public. (An online hybrid option will be available.)
Open Level Dance Class
Wednesdays for 4 sessions: September 4th, 11th, 18th and 25th 2:30 - 3:30 PM LC 1
Over 60 years of age only.
Facilitator: Jule Ramirez
Get moving with our new mini dance class. Class will include
A warm-up, a movement phrase across the floor, a slower paced adagio phrase followed by a short combination. All are welcome for this fun and new dance class. Participants will get to enjoy all different forms of dance.

Pina Colada and Hang

Come and enjoy some Pina Colada with Jose and hang out with friends as we reflect on the summer and it’s memorable moments. Space is very limited so please sign up.
Fall Festival with NY Cares
Tuesday, September 10th 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM Auditorium
Fall is in the air and the leaves are changing colors. Join us for some fun fall crafts and tasty fall treats.
Special Meal:
Regular meal: Beef Hotdog with Whole Wheat Hotdog Buns.
Veggie meal: Veggie Hotdog with Whole Wheat Hotdog Buns.
Sides: Potato Wedges and Coleslaw
This special meal includes toppings and Dessert for those who participate in Congregate Meal Service.
Day of Remembrance
Wednesday, September 11th, 1 -3 pm Auditorium
In honor of September 11th, join us to reconnect with each other, celebrate the unbreakable human spirit and share memories. We will be partnering with corporate sponsor, Ogilvy and providing emergency go bags. There is limited space. Must sign up to join. Only 40 slots available.
Art Shack Ceramics (rescheduled)

Tarot for Well Being- Part 2

Join us for a fun and engaging tarot class designed especially for older adults! Explore the symbolism of tarot cards for self-reflection and guidance. Participate in fun and engaging exercises designed to promote well-being. Techniques to interpret the cards intuitively. No prior experience necessary! Class is limited to 7 participants.
Breakfast Club

Join our monthly breakfast club with NY Cares. Enjoy some bagels, pastries and coffee/tea. We will also celebrate September birthdays. Please reach out to Jose Gil if you want a special treat for your birthday! Please note starting this month only participants who sign up can participate. All participants who sign up will receive a sticker during breakfast club.
Josh’s Movie Club

Summer Friday Fun Day

Senior Center Month Cultural Day

In honor of Senior Center Month, we are celebrating the different cultures at our center with our annual Cultural Day. It is a celebration of different foods from around the word that reflects the diversity of NYC. Open only to OAC participants over the age of 60 who RSVP, space is limited, please sign up in the office. Due to the nature of this special event, we will not be able to accommodate allergy concerns or dietary restrictions. Volunteers from Triangle Insight will be helping out.

Food Pantry -The food pantry will be on hold temporarily. We will update everyone when we have it up and running again.

Event Signups
Please note that OAC members 60 and over are given priority to sign up for events. Please note that events are space limited and often supplies are purchased based on RSVP numbers. If you sign up for an event, but need to cancel for any reason, please call the office (immediately/as soon as possible). We can open the waiting list or avoid excess purchases when you keep us informed.
Bar Codes
As a reminder, please bring your DFTA bar code down for meals for us to scan you in. No one will be denied a meal if you don't have one or if you forget. Please reach out to Diana or Elizabeth for a bar code. Please note that in the event you lose your barcode fob you will be issued a complementary replacement. Should you lose the replacement barcode fob we will charge $5 to replace it. Please ensure to keep your barcode fobs in a safe place.
CONSENT FORMS
The Department for Aging is requiring all senior center members to complete and sign off on consent forms in order to participate in the program. If you can fill out the top portion that includes your Last Name, First Name, Address and phone number and then sign on the bottom and return to the office that would be great. It can be emailed or mailed back to us as well if that is easier. If you need help please reach out to us and we can fill them out for you. If you already filled it out you do not need to fill it out again. You only have to do this one time. Please reach out if you have any questions.
